Advanced Interaction

This is a render from my advanced interaction module from my game redneck racing. The concept of the game is simple. You race around various rural scenes as a different redneck character on vehicles ranging from combine harvesters to pigs with sadals.

Personal Project

The Personal Project Module that I'm doing this year is proving to be a major headache. I am the only artist in a group of 5 programmers. I've yet to see any of the programming work and have recently lost a file of animations because it became corupt. As well as this we spent a good 3 weeks trying to work out how to convert animated models into 3ds Max so we could get it into the instinct engine. Why they're using the instinct engine here in uni is beyond me, saying that all the artists are working with Maya. It's ridiculous. Anyway above is my main character for the game Chuck. He is a lazy slob who one day enters into a drunken fantasy where he jumps into his tv and beats up famous celebrities.

This is a render for the menue scene i've built. The idea is that you go to the TV if you want to "Start" the game, you go to the couch for the "Options" and you go to the toilet if you want to "Quit".
Above is an image of one of the sub characters the camera man. I 've shown this to show the poly count of my characters. One of the challenging things about this module is trying to keep the characters low poly for the game engine.

Poster Design

This was for a poster i was designing. Fairly simple model. Just experimenting with lighting and bumb mapping.

Advanced Animation

I feel as though the title of this module that i did, Advanced Animation, is a bit misleading as this animation is in no way advanced. However considering this year was my first year doing 3d animation i was pleased with the end result. It looks polished (despite the fact a lot of it is lost in the picture quality and video size) and the animation flows quite nicely. One think i feel is lacking was a good use of proper blend shapes on the characters. As characters they don't really have much to say and there characteristics means they have these fixed expressions on they're faces. In hindsight there is so much more i want to do with this animation. But I really enjoy doing animation and is something that i want to persue further. I hope to do some stuff over summer and really get to grasps with what i feel is a difficult yet enjoyable art form.

2nd year work

I uploaded these images becase this was the first environment i'd ever modeled in maya and although rough round the edges i was pretty chuffed with it. I'm also keeen to see how my future enviromental models look in comparisson with this. It's amazing how much you can progress in 3D work over the space of a year.

Persuasive Narrative

For our Persuasive Narrative module in University we were asked to produce a 10 minute maximum documentary. I chose to do my documentary on the great scandal of '09 that happened at Abertay. The confiscation of the kettle from white space. Overall I was pleased with the finished piece though looking back i can see obvious flaws in it. For example there are times where aspect ratio of the shot changes from 4:3 to 16:9. This was because on one of the camera's i was shooting in widescreen. I do like a lot of the camera shots though, (much thanks to Duncan Ross for his help) and i feel it was fairly well edited considering i had over 45 minutes of footage...most of which was laughing.

Mr Bloggy

My names Andrew Robertson and I am currently about to finish my 3rd year of Computer Arts at Abertay. I don't really like blogs, in fact i hate them. I think i would like them better if they weren't called blogs. But i've set up this "blog" so that I can show off and let others view my work.
